Will WSL2 replace hypervisors?

WSL2 is a remarkably capable daily environment for automation, Linux-native tooling, and disposable development workflows. It is fast to start and close enough to the Windows host to make cross-platform work feel ordinary.

That convenience is also the boundary to remember. Research that depends on strong isolation, unusual kernels, nested networks, or intentionally hostile samples still belongs in purpose-built virtual machines or dedicated hardware.

Use WSL2 for the work it makes safer and faster. Keep a hypervisor for the experiments where separation is part of the experiment.
